Team India announced for West Indies tour, Rahane again vice-captain in Test, Samson returns in ODI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads for the Test and 50-over matches against the West Indies next month. Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has returned to the Indian ODI team. Samson last played an ODI against New Zealand in November last year. Will return to the white-ball squad with a chance to stake his claim for a spot in the World Cup squad. While Suryakumar Yadav, who made three ducks on the first ball against Australia in March, has retained his place.

 

With players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer still out due to their respective injuries, the rest of the squad remains almost the same. Rahul, who has been the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman in ODIs, is recovering from his thigh surgery and hence the slot has opened up for Samson as the gloves option behind the stumps. With Iyer out, Surya has got a long run in the middle order while Ruturaj Gaikwad has been recalled for the ODIs. Ishan Kishan has retained his place despite a poor performance in the last few matches, while the bowling attack has remained almost the same with Mohammed Shami rested and Mukesh Kumar getting chances like in Test matches. Cheteshwar Pujara’s name is missing from the Test team.
