The tradition of ringing the bell will start from the India-Australia Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

With the start of the third Test to be played between India and Australia from Wednesday under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy competition, the tradition of opening the international cricket match by ringing the bell at the Holkar Stadium in Indore will also begin. An official of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Organization (MPCA) gave this information on Tuesday. The official said that a big brass bell has been installed in front of the dressing room of the players at Holkar Stadium.

“Five minutes before the start of cricket on each day of the India-Australia Test, different personalities will formally signal the start of play by ringing this bell,” he said. With this, Indore’s Holkar Stadium will join the ranks of famous grounds like Lord’s in London and Eden Gardens in Kolkata where the tradition of starting an international cricket match by ringing a bell is followed, he said. The official said that before the start of the India-Australia Test, a statue of India’s first Test captain CK Nayudu will also be unveiled at the Holkar Stadium.

He told that after the unveiling, there is a plan to keep this statue in the proposed museum of MPCA. The official said the statue unveiling ceremony will take place immediately after the toss and will be attended by India captain Rohit Sharma and Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith, as well as Richard Holkar of Indore’s erstwhile Holkar dynasty and former BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale.
