Ukraine shot down Russia’s hypersonic missile with the help of American defense system
Ukraine’s air force claimed on Saturday that it shot down a Russian hypersonic missile over the capital Kiev using US Patriot defense systems. Ukraine recently received the Patriot defense system from the US. This is the first time that Ukraine has shot down any of Russia’s most advanced missiles. Ukrainian air force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said in a post on Telegram that earlier this week a Kinzhal-type ballistic missile was shot down during a nighttime attack on the Ukrainian capital.
This was the first time that the Air Force of Ukraine used Patriot defense systems. Oleshchuk wrote, “Yes, we killed AnokheKinjal. This happened during a night attack on May 4 in the skies of the Kiev region. Oleshchuk said the KH-47 missile was fired from MiG-31K aircraft from Russian territory and shot down by a Patriot missile. Kinjal is one of the latest and most advanced Russian weapons. The Russian military says that this air-launched ballistic missile can hit up to 2,000 kilometers.
