Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will clash, know which team has the upper hand

Saturday is going to be a very special day for IPL because on this day Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will clash with each other. This match is going to be very interesting for both Mumbai and Chennai teams. The Mumbai team is yet to open its account. Mumbai Indians have played one match so far and had to face defeat while Chennai Super Kings have won one out of two matches.

In such a situation, when the Mumbai Indians team led by Rohit Sharma will take the field against the arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at their home ground in the IPL match on Saturday, they will have the challenge of leaving behind the defeat in the opening match of the season. Mumbai was handed a crushing eight-wicket defeat by Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. The team will be feeling fresh after almost a week’s rest but Chah will be under the added pressure of facing the wrath of Dhoni at his home ground in front of some passionate fans.

Dhoni, however, warned the team’s bowlers after being troubled by no-balls in the previous matches, which will put youngsters like Rajvardhan Hangergekar and Tushar Deshpande under pressure and both may face a challenge on the batting-friendly track of Wankhede ground. Chennai’s victory in the match against five-time champions Mumbai will also depend on how effective spinners like Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner are. The team, however, may look at bringing in South African fast bowler Sisanda Magala, who is known for his accurate yorkers, in the playing XI.

Santner may have to sit out due to his arrival in the playing XI. People will focus more on Mumbai captain Rohit. He had failed to create charisma with the bat last season. He got off to a brisk start against Royal Challengers Bangalore but failed to convert his innings into a big score. The boundary line of this ground is short and in such a situation, bowlers like experienced Jofra Archer, Arshad Khan, Cameron Green will find it challenging to contain the Chennai opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad or Devon Conway.

Sandeep Warrier and Riley Meredith have joined the team after Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson were ruled out for the season and Mumbai will be hoping for a good performance from these bowlers. The Wankhede pitch might help the fast bowlers in the initial overs but Chennai have inexperienced fast bowlers. In such a situation, the team of Mumbai Indians would like to take advantage of this. Mumbai’s innings was handled by young Tilak Verma against RCB, in which he was supported by Punjab’s debutant Nehal Wadhera. However, the team will have to put up a collective effort with the bat to register a win.

Chennai Super Kings’ Gaikwad’s tremendous form with the bat and his pairing with Conway is the team’s strongest side. Gaikwad has shown the power of his bat by scoring half-centuries in both the opening matches. The team will hope that this right-handed batsman maintains his rhythm. Conway missed out on a half-century against Lucknow Super Giants, but declared his form by sharing a century partnership with Gaikwad. Chennai have power-packed players in the middle order like Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali. Experienced Ambati Rayudu and Dhoni have also been successful in playing big shots with the bat for the team.

The team’s batting looks better than Mumbai’s. The cause of concern for Chennai is the bowling department. The young pacer has not been deterred from bowling the no ball and Deepak Chahar has failed to find his rhythm after injury. In 34 matches between the two teams, however, Mumbai have the upper hand, having won 20 matches.
