WPL 2023. Smriti Mandhana to lead RCB women’s team, Kohli-Duplessis announced
Royal Challengers Bangalore (ACB) has appointed India’s veteran batsman Smriti Mandhana as its captain for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The left-handed opening batsman was roped in by the franchise for a whopping Rs 3.40 crore in the recent auction held in Mumbai. This is the highest price for a player in the WPL auction.

The franchise made the announcement by sharing a video on its social media handle. The video contains messages from RCB’s charismatic player Virat Kohli and the current captain of the men’s team, Faf du Plessis. In this, Kohli said, “Now another ‘number 18’ (jersey number) is ready to lead a very special RCB team in the WPL. Yes, we are talking about Smriti Mandhana. Do your best memory. You will have the support of the best team and the best fans in the world.

On the announcement of Smriti as the captain, RCB President Prathamesh Mishra said, “Smriti is central to our bold approach to the game and our cricketing plans. We have entrusted him with the leadership role. We are confident that Smriti will take RCB to greater heights.” On becoming the captain of RCB women’s team, Smriti said, “It is great to see Virat and Faf talking so much about leading RCB . I would like to thank the RCB management for giving me this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to receiving all the love and support from you fans.” Smriti has 2661 runs in 113 T20 Internationals. During this, his average is 27.15 and the strike rate is 123.19. Smriti, who has played T20 leagues in England and Australia, has captained the Indian team in 11 T20 Internationals. Under her leadership, the Trailblazers team became the 2020 champions in the Women’s T20 Challenge held before the WPL.
