America wants to host T20 World Cup, now eyes fixed on the successful organization of MLC
Bangalore. USA Cricket (USAC) on Wednesday said it will not be stripped of hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup due to concerns over lack of proper cricket infrastructure in the country. He also said that the successful conduct of Major League Cricket (MLC) will clear all doubts. There are reports that the International Cricket Council (ICC) may shift the premier tournament to England next year instead of being jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States.
A USAC official, however, said that they have not received any communication from the world body regarding the shifting of the venue. An America Cricket administrator told PTI, “We have not had any discussion with the ICC in this regard. We are trying our best to create the necessary infrastructure for the T20 World Cup to be held after a year. does not host but we are about to organize Major League Cricket and successful hosting of this T20 tournament will remove a lot of worries.
The first MLC T20 tournament will be played from July 13 to 30. Six teams will participate in the tournament and it will be played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. Many big cricketers from around the world have signed up with MLC T20 including England’s Jason Roy, Australia’s Adam Zampa, Matthew Wade, Marcus Stoinis and Moises Henriques. The ICC, however, played down reports of shifting the T20 World Cup from the West Indies and the US. An ICC board member told PTI, “There was no discussion at any ICC forum on shifting the T20 World Cup 2024 from West Indies and America.” The event will be held as per the schedule and the venue will be announced soon.
The Indian cricket team has played a few international matches against the West Indies at Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida. The ICC’s site inspection team has visited cities such as Oakland, Florida and Los Angeles as possible sites for the tournament. It is believed that the match between India and Pakistan will be organized in America instead of West Indies as both the teams have a lot of supporters here. India and Pakistan match is one of the biggest matches of the ICC tournament.
