Anamika in the semi-finals of the Kalaivani Strandja Memorial
Indian boxers Anamika and S Kalaivani entered the semi-finals of the Strandja Memorial International Boxing Tournament here on Friday, winning their respective bouts. Anamika beat Brazil’s Caroline de Almeida 5-0 in the women’s 50kg quarterfinals, while Kalaivani beat Argentina’s Florencia Lopez 4-1 in the 48kg category. Meanwhile, three women boxers Jyoti, Vinakshi and Simranjit bowed out of the quarterfinals.
Jyoti (52kg) went down 2-3 to Romain Moulai of France in a hard-fought match, while Vinakshi (57kg) went down 1-4 to Alyssa Mendoza of America. In the women’s 60 kg category, Brazil’s Beatriz Ferreira defeated Simranjeet 4-1. Late on Thursday, two Indian male boxers made it to the semi-finals of the tournament. World youth champion Sachin registered a 4-1 win over Uzbekistan’s Muzafarov Shakhzod in the 54kg category.
Defending national champion Govind Kumar Sahni (48kg) defeated two-time Asian champion Nodrijon Mirzakhmedov of Uzbekistan 5-0. Meanwhile, Akash (67kg) crashed out of the tournament after losing 0-5 to Denmark’s Sebastian Tertarian. Narendra (92+kg) lost 1-4 to Mohammad Abdullayev of Azerbaijan.
