ATX Open Tennis: Katie Volinets achieved the feat, made it to the WTA semi-finals for the first time

Austin. American tennis player Katie Wolinetz reached the semi-finals of a WTA event for the first time after defeating compatriot Peyton Stearns 7-5 6-3 in the quarter-finals of the ATX Open. World No. 92 Volinets made a stunning start on Friday, taking a 5-0 lead in the first set in the two-twenty-one-year-old match. Wild card holder Stearns then made a comeback to tie the score at 5-5. The Volinettes, however, again dominated and took control of the match, winning seven games in a row.
In the next round, she will face the challenge of 88th ranked Varvara Gracheva. Russia’s Gracheva defeated 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens 7-6 6-3. Eighth seed Marta Kostyuk beat Anna-Lena Freedoms 7-6 6-2 to reach the last four of a tournament for the first time in 2023. To reach the first WTA final of her career, she will have to overcome the challenge of 2022 Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins. Fourth seed Collins came back from being down in the first set to defeat Anna Kalinskaya 3-6 6-2 6-1.
