Calabria and Sicily have called for a state of emergency
Prosecutors are trying to locate the arsonists

Italy: The regions of Calabria and Sicily tonight called on the Italian government to declare a state of emergency.
It is a measure that was deemed necessary in order to be able to deal with the enormous damage caused in recent days by the dozens of fires that broke out in these two areas.
At the same time, the prosecutor’s offices of Lower Italy launched an investigation to determine whether the fires that broke out and continue to burn countless acres of land, are the result of arson.

The mayors of Calabria believe that this is the only logical explanation since – as they complain – “as soon as a fire goes out, immediately after, a few hundred meters away, a new outbreak is located”.
