Dhoni’s captaincy was a bit difficult: Smith
Australia legend Steve Smith says captaining India legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the 2017 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a bit difficult but he learned to remain calm even in odd situations from the charismatic skipper. Smith captained the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in 2017. Chennai Super Kings did not participate in this season due to the ban. Dhoni was a part of this team. Smith will be part of the commentary team during the upcoming season of IPL.
Under his captaincy in 2017, the RPS team missed the title by just one run in the final. Recalling his experiences captaining RPS and working with Dhoni, Smith told ‘Star Sports’, “When I got the call to tell them that they wanted me to be the captain, it was a bit daunting. Dhoni had performed amazingly in that session. He was amazing. You know he helped me in every way during this time. He said, “The experience of captaining Dhoni was great but it was also a bit difficult.”
He told, “I did not expect this because Dhoni was captaining since the beginning of the IPL. When I was told about this, I asked have you guys talked to Dhoni about this? Dhoni has a wonderful personality. “Smith said,” He helped me in every way and guided the team brilliantly. I will be thankful to him for this. “The former captain said,” From Dhoni, I learned to keep my mind calm during the match. He is quite calm and controls emotions superbly.
