The Election Commission of India has directed the police and concerned departments to make strict arrangements to ensure that cash and liquor are not distributed in the upcoming assembly elections. The commission said that all measures should be taken for fair and peaceful voting. There should be no discrimination against any party. Use of cash in elections should be stopped at all costs. For this, a special watch should be kept on the airstrips and the airport authority should keep the details of the chartered air travel of the leaders.
The Election Commission also said that ATM vans dispensing cash will not operate at night and proper documents are necessary to move cash from the currency chests of the Reserve Bank of India as well. Without this the cash should be confiscated. The commission took information from the Excise Department about the action plan to catch illicit liquor in the elections. Along with this, information has been sought from the Excise Department about the consumption of liquor in the months of January and February last year.
