New Delhi. The 14th round of military talks held on Wednesday to end the military standoff between India and China for the last one and a half years is inconclusive. After talks that lasted for about 12-13 hours in Chushul Moldo, China’s side on the other side of the border, both sides have only said that the results of the earlier talks have to be carried forward and strengthened. It was also said that soon both the sides have agreed to hold talks again. Significantly, the 13th round of talks was also inconclusive. Both sides are currently negotiating the issue of withdrawal of troops from Hot Spring.
It is clear from the statements issued by both the sides that the talks have not progressed. It added that the two countries would further consolidate past results. However, both the countries have agreed to maintain contact and continue talks to resolve the remaining issues by mutual consent. Earlier on Wednesday, it was evident from the statement of Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane that there is no much hope from the talks. He had said that talks are going on but India is also continuing its preparations.
However, according to the statement issued on Thursday regarding the military commander-level talks held on Wednesday, both the countries said that they have agreed that they should follow the guidance given by their leaders and take care of other issues. The solution should work. Doing so will help restore peace along the LAC in the western region and bring progress in bilateral relations, according to the statement.
The two sides also agreed to work on past results and make effective efforts to maintain security and stability in the western region, the statement said. The two countries have agreed to remain in close contact and to continue dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and to work on a mutually acceptable solution to the remaining issues. The two countries agreed that the next round of talks between military commanders should also be held early, the statement said.
