Pele: Veteran footballer Pele’s health deteriorated, kidney and heart also affected

Sao Paulo. Hospitalized for cancer and respiratory problems, legendary footballer Pele’s health has deteriorated and doctors say his cancer has progressed and his heart and kidneys have also been affected. Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital said in a statement on Wednesday that 82-year-old Pele’s cancer had progressed and he also had kidney and heart problems. In the statement, the hospital did not give any details about the three-time World Cup winner’s respiratory problem which was aggravated due to Kovid-19.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, has been battling cancer for some time and had an operation in September 2021 to remove his intestinal tumour. Neither the hospital nor his family gave any information whether his other organs were affected or not. Pele’s daughter, Kelly Nascimento, said the great footballer would remain in hospital during Christmas.

He wrote in his post on Instagram, “We have decided together with the doctors that it would be appropriate to keep him in the hospital.” While Pele was there, Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970. He scored 77 goals for Brazil. His national record was recently equaled by Neymar during the World Cup.
