Prajwal Dev beats fourth seed Mukund Sasikumar to enter singles semi-finals
India’s S D Prajwal Dev stormed into the singles semi-finals of the ITF Mysuru Open with a 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) win over compatriot Mukund Sasikumar here on Friday. Local player Prajwal, who is ranked 1027 in the world, came from behind to pull off an upset by defeating fourth seed Mukund. Mukund’s world ranking is 401. Mukund took the first set 6-1 and looked like he would win easily. But after that Prajwal gave him a tough fight and won the next two sets to seal the match.
Prajwal did not let the pressure get the better of him in the match that lasted for almost three hours. Prajwal will face George Lofgen in the semi-finals. The unseeded Briton continued his winning streak in the tournament by defeating India’s Karan Singh 7-6 (4), 6-3. In doubles, top seeded Indian pair of B Ritwik Chowdhary and Nikki Punacha defeated fourth seeded compatriots Parikshit Somani and Manish Sureshkumar 6-3, 6-3 to enter the final.
