Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has parted ways with her coach Park Tae Sang. Confirming this on Friday, the South Korean coach took responsibility for the Indian player’s recent dismal performances. He said that this Indian player wanted change. Sindhu had won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and a gold medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games under Park Tae Sang. Sindhu struggled to find her form when she returned to the court after being sidelined for five months due to injury.
She had first round exits at Malaysia Open and India Open. They also did not fare well at the Asia Mixed Team Championships in Dubai, losing to lower-ranked Gao Fang Jie and Wong Ling Ching of Malaysia. The foreign coach said he holds himself responsible for Sindhu’s dismal start to the season. Park Tae Sang wrote on his Instagram page, “I want to talk about my relationship with PV Sindhu which has been asked by many people. He has made some disappointing moves in recent matches and as coach I feel it is my responsibility.
“That’s why she (Sindhu) wants a change and she said she will look for a new coach. I have decided to respect and abide by her decision. I’m sorry I can’t be with her till the next Olympics but still my support will be with her. Started working as a coach.
Under Park’s coach, Sindhu won three BWF World Tour titles – Syed Modi International, Swiss Open and Singapore Open in 2022, besides an Olympic bronze medal and a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Park’s contract was till the 2024 Paris Olympics. He said, “I will cherish every moment spent with her. I express my gratitude to all those who supported me and encouraged me.
This Korean was Sindhu’s third coach. He started his career under the tutelage of India’s head coach Pullela Gopichand. After this, while being the coach of another Korean Korean Kim Ji Hyun, he won the gold medal of the World Championship in 2019. However, later differences arose between them.
