Students protest against iftar in BHU campus, administration termed the uproar as reprehensible

On Wednesday evening, students created a ruckus in the Women’s College campus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) over the organization of Iftar and raised questions about starting a new tradition. At the same time, an explanation has been given by the university administration that iftar is being organized for many years. Students reached the Vice-Chancellor’s residence and raised slogans and also burnt the effigy of the Vice-Chancellor. At the same time, in an official statement issued in this regard late on Thursday evening, the university administration termed the uproar as reprehensible and said, “There is no place of discrimination against anyone, on any basis, in this university established according to the values and ideals of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.” Not there.”
The university administration, in a statement, said that Rosa-Iftar is being organized in the campus for many years and the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University always participates in it when available. It said, “Roza Iftar was organized in the Mahila Mahavidyalaya, in which the Vice-Chancellor was invited. It could not be organized for the last two years due to the Corona epidemic. A student said that there has been no tradition of such an event in the university campus and the Vice-Chancellor is giving birth to a new tradition by doing so. On the protest, the university administration says, “The attempt to spoil the academic and harmonious environment of the university is condemnable.”
After this incident, on Thursday, students created a ruckus on the walls of the university campus when controversial slogans regarding Brahmin caste and Kashmir were written. These slogans were written in the name of ‘Bhagat Singh Chhatra Morcha’. Seeing the anger of the students, the university administration got the controversial slogans erased. Chief Proctor Kapri, who reached the spot, said, “It has been written to spoil the atmosphere of the university but we will not allow it to happen.” About the organization written under the slogans, Kapri said, The name of Bhagat Singh student organization has been written, its people have been identified by the university administration. On the other hand, Bhagat Singh Chhatra Morcha issued a statement in this regard and said, “Bhagat Singh Chhatra Morcha (BCM) has nothing to do with such slogans. We demand from the university administration to investigate this matter and take action against anti-social elements.
