Bhadohi Carpet Fair to be held in October

Lucknow. Carpet industry plays an important role in the economy of Varanasi, Bhadohi and Mirzapur districts of the state. More than one and a half thousand registered companies are engaged in the work of making and exporting carpets in these three districts. It has linked the lives of more than two lakh artisans and their nearly 10 lakh families in Bhadohi and Varanasi region alone. For all of them, the open Carpet Expo-Mart in Bhadohi is now proving to be an increase in their business. With the opening of this mart, there has been an increase in the carpet business of Bhadohi and Varanasi. Foreign tourists visiting Varanasi are showing interest in buying carpets in this Carpet Mart. Due to which the demand for carpets made in Bhadohi and Varanasi is increasing abroad and the carpet industry here is giving competition to the foreign carpet business. In view of the increasing demand for Bhadohi carpets even during the Corona crisis, the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) has decided to organize a national and international level carpet fair in the coming October. This fair was not being organized for two years.

The carpets made of Bhadohi, Mirzapur and Varanasi are liked all over the world. Bhadohi is known as the carpet city of Uttar Pradesh in the country and abroad. The Persian carpet made here is liked all over the world. Big businessmen want that Persian carpet made in Bhadohi should be in their house and office. The Persian carpet of Bhadohi is preferred over the carpets made in Pakistan, Iran and Turkey. This is the reason that even during the Corona crisis, the carpet business did not become a victim of recession. The demand for carpets has remained constant. According to Bhadohi’s carpet trader Firoz Waziri, even during the Corona crisis, carpet orders kept coming from abroad, which were fulfilled. This was the reason that in the year 2020-21, the carpet industry could export Rs 4,108.37 crore from the state. Whereas in the year 2019-20, the carpet industry of the state could export only Rs 3,704.05 crore. From April 2021 to October 2021, carpets worth Rs 3054.97 crore were exported from the state, of which 95 percent carpets were exported from Bhadohi and its adjoining districts. Regarding the reason for the increase in carpet exports, Firoz Waziri says that the carpet made here goes to many cities of the country including Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and many other countries including America, Europe, Germany, Japan. Asif Raza of Bhadohi says, when people were in their homes during the Karona crisis, people replaced the old carpet of their house with a new carpet. Due to which the carpet industry in Bhadohi did not become a victim of recession. There has been a steady increase in the export of carpets. Along with this, there is also a reason that the quality of the carpet of Bhadohi is good and the design of the carpet here is unique. Our country’s carpet industry competes with many carpet producing countries, but even after that, the dominance of Indian carpets in foreign markets remains intact. Asif says that exports are increasing due to better marketing skills of exporters as well as policies of the central and state governments. He also says that due to the carpet mart built by the state government, there has been a boom in the carpet business. This carpet mart built in Bhadohi is the largest carpet mart in the country. Now people are getting the world’s most expensive Persian carpet to handmade colorful carpets easily under one roof in Bhadohi. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had inaugurated this carpet mart. Due to its construction, foreign and domestic tourists coming to Varanasi are able to come here and buy the carpet of their choice. With the opening of this Carpet Mart, there has been an increase in the sales of Persian carpets. Persian carpets are the most expensive in the world. Its price starts from $50 to $500 square feet. Persian carpet accounts for about 10 percent of the total carpet sold abroad. Persian carpets were made 250 years ago by people from Iran who started making it in Bhadohi. There are about 182 fine bales in a square inch of Persian carpet. The finer the knot, the higher the price. Natural dyes are used in these carpets. These colors are made from the leaves of plants, their blisters, tea leaves. This carpet is being exported extensively to countries like America, Germany, Australia, Canada and Britain etc. And this carpet is giving competition to the foreign carpet business.
