Samson joined the Royals in 2018 for Rs 8 crore
Samson joined the Royals in 2018 for Rs 8 crore. He took over from Steve Smith as the captain of the Royals last season and although he failed to take the team to the IPL 2021 playoffs, he finished with 484 runs at a strike-rate of 137. England wicketkeeper Butler is expected to be signed on retention soon, but the status and availability of all-rounder Ben Stokes is still unclear. Stokes took a break from cricket in 2021 and returned to training even before the Ashes 2021. It will be a toss up between Livingstone, who was sensational for England in the T20 World Cup 2021, and Stokes to finish third behind Samson and Buttler.

Retaining Jaiswal will cost the Royals only Rs 4 crore as he is still an uncapped player. According to the rules of IPL, a team can retain a total of four players, out of which maximum two can be foreign players. 42 crores are spent on this arrangement but still the owner has Rs 48 crores left to spend in the auction. The Royals are expected to seal the last three retentions by November 28. (rajasthan royals retain )
